Spooky Genting ( A Compilation of Eerie Stories and Rumors)

Since I am now not at Genting Highland anymore, and since my best friend, Lion also doesn’t know much about the some spooky rumors around that area, I have managed to compile some stories that might add to everyone’s knowledge. Please remember that this stories does not have any solid proof. Maybe someone out there could provide some insights on these stories.

 

Karak Highway

Let start from the bottom, the Karak Highways. There was a story going around for quite sometimes. Once a family was traveling along Karak Highway at night and just after the tunnel, their car suddenly broke down. The husband tried to start the car but failed and so he tried to fix. He went out, asking his wife to stay inside the car and locked it, because it was too dark. So, armed with a torch light and some tools, he opened the car hood and started fixing. The wife could not see the husband because the view was completely covered by the hood.

After a few minutes, there were banging on the roof of the car. The wife got scared but remembered her husband’s advice and did not go out. There were cars driving pass them initially slowing down but sped off when they came near to the vehicle. Sensing something amiss, the wife dialed for the police.

Soon, a patrol car came and stop a distance behind the car, shone light at her and tell her to run as fast as she could to the patrol car without look back. She followed their advice but out of curiosity, she looked back and she saw a Pontianak  (a local vampire) holding her husband's head and banging on the car. 

Not really sure, how truth this story was. I heard a few version of it but the content was about the same. Out of curiosity, I did some searching and realized that there were really lots of accidents around that place. At least one or two serious one per year, I remembered seeing some serious car crash when I traveled to Genting last time but strangely it was not reported in the newspaper. Here is some articles that I managed to dig out: The famous one in 1990, recent ones (June 4, 2008) and the most recent ones (Jan, 19 2009). There was even one accident with ghostly photos.

 

Genting Themepark

Words from the street which goes that if you stroll around the themepark at night, you could some times heard people screaming or some equipment might came to life for no apparent reason.

 

I heard that it was haunted by those who died while playing at the theme park. One accident I heard was that a long hair girl got her scalp ripped off when playing the Space Shot. Her hair somehow got stuck by the machine, and the velocity of the free fall killed her instantly. I also heard that there were some fatal accident on the Corkscrew and people mysteriously missing when they paddled into the old Shark mouth (heard that it was sealed off).  

 

In addition, one of my friends (after viewing my previous entry) told me that he saw children playing at the closed theme park at night!

 

So, I don’t know how true the haunting and accidents were, whether it was a good cover-up or just some stories to scare off some people but if anyone had some first hand experience, please do share.

 

Genting Hotels and Appartment

Ria Appartment (currently close)

This might be a coincidence but I heard many people fell sick after staying there. I got an anonymous email saying that one of the floors was totally sealed off and although no one was living at that floor, you could hear many people banging at the lift whenever your lift zoomed through that floor during midnight.

 

I did some research and it seemed that there were a lot of people experiencing seeing unusual figures or hearing unexplainable noise when staying at the apartment. There was also a history lesson on Ria Apartment and why the blocks were then renamed to Pahang and Selangor block.

 

Other Genting Hotels

There were lots of stories regarding some locked rooms and figures appearing out of nowhere and then jumped out from the windows. I heard that there were some suicides incidents because of gambling debts. That is why the windows of all rooms had been adjusted so that you could only open it slightly and enough to let the cold air in. Try typing “Genting Hotel Haunted” in your search engine and I bet there were lots of eerie happenings for you to read about.

 

One thing I was very sure was that if you requested changing room from the front desk, the staff would change it for you without asking anything. My friend tried it before, and this raised my curiosity to another level.

 

Genting Casino

Although there was no much reported incident regarding the casino but it was considered a place full of little ghost. I shall start another entry on some ways to win money in the casino which was practiced by my aunt. One of the methods was giving the little ghosts some candies. But still depends on your believing.

 

There was one incident reported in the newspaper about a granny reported missing from the casino but was found at a far far place later.

 

 

This is what I managed to compile from my reading some stories and hearing some first hand experience. It might not be true and just some rumor. Just in case I go missing after this entry is being published or this entry is suddenly removed. Then you guys could suspect what might happen to me or this entry. 

Mysterious Level 21 of Genting First World Hotel Tower One

I don’t know how long this entry would last; maybe till someone forces me to remove it. So, read it while it is still here.

 

I am not a superstitious person. I didn’t even wear red (the color which considered auspicious for Chinese) during Chinese New Year, instead I wore dark-colored clothes during these 3 days in Genting Highland.

However, I believe in paranormal activities or the spiritual worlds. Therefore it sparked my curiosity when I found out that there was no level 21 at the First World Hotel that I stayed. The buttons on the lift skipped from level 20 to level 22. So where was level 21?

I asked a hotel staff but he confirmed that but he just smiled when I asked him why. So, did level 21 exist? One blog concluded that it was a “high administrative level” with “many security cameras” and “a warning at the staircase”. I didn’t believe that so I started my own investigation.

 

First, I took the lift counting from level 19 till 20, then level 20 till 22. I compared the time it took and it was took the same amount of time! So, level 21 did not exist at all? Another check at the second tower of First World Hotel, level 21 existed, but how come it was removed from the first tower?

 

To confirm my finding, I went to level 20 of my tower and tried to access level 21 through staircase.  As you can see, exactly above level 20, it was level 22!

Unlike unlucky number 4 (for Chinese) or 13 (for Westerners), 21 was not considered under the same category. In fact, it was considered as a lucky number for blackjack players! This meant that instead of level 21, they renamed it to level 22 and so on.

 

Why level 21 was suddenly removed from the list? I could only think of one reason - to confuse people because of some past incidents on level 21.

 

I could not find any news on level 21 of First World Hotel Tower one, but there were 2 rumors speculating:

1. Corpse under the bed: There was a rumor which went that the corpse of a murdered woman was found under the bed. It was hidden beneath the bed for quite some times. And when it was discovered, the condition was quite gruesome. However, this was just rumors for now; i could not find any solid proof or newspaper cutting confirming this.

2. Murdered prostitute: According to one website, there was news regarding a murdered prostitute at First World Hotel. The woman, who was from China, was murdered inside the hotel room.

 

Which was the real reason behind the disappearing of level 21? Or are there more stories behind this? What I know was that no matter what, there were still many people visiting this place especially during public holidays!

Theory Behind Slot Machine @ Genting Casino

Because of some words bothering me, I was unable to fall asleep last night. Therefore, at around 1.30am my brother and I went visiting the casino.

 

Need to blame it on my ‘Profession Disease’ (职业病, meaning you tend to practice what your profession required you to do on non-working hours or period), we ended up studying how the random features on linked slot machines in Genting Casino worked. 

For those who never play a slot machine before, it was considered as a gambling machine where when you pressed a button the reels spun and if you were lucky enough, some of the symbols of the reels matched and you would be getting the payout accordingly. Linked slot machines were like normal slot machines but they were sort of connected to the same network, where some random features (jackpots or any special features) would commence on any slot machine by random.

 

How these random features triggered? It seemed like there was a limit set on the network. If accumulatively all linked slot machines total betting reached that limit, the first machine that crossed the limit would entitle to special feature.

 

Don’t get it? Let me paint the scenario for you. If the current accumulative bet is RM978; whereas the limit is RM1,000, slot machine 1 till 7 are betting RM1 per spin while a rich guy on machine 8 is having RM20 per spin. Here are the scenarios:

1. If machine 8 bet first (total RM998), followed by machine 1 (total RM999)then machine 6 (total RM1000, limit reached); the one who entitled the special feature would be machine 6
2. If machine 1 till 7 bet first (total RM986) then followed by machine 8 (total RM1006, limit reached); the one who entitled the special feature would be machine 8.
3. If machine 8 is dreaming and not spinning at all, while machine 1 till 7 spin twice; then the first machine which crosses the limit will have the special feature.

 

Get it now?

 

Some might ask why special feature is important? The reason is that it guarantees some winning be it large or small.

 

Some information on individual slot machine

Usually there are ‘Free Game’ features on the slot machine, where when it is triggered you would be having free spins with better or higher payout. I observed that it really depends on luck but always remember this, the more spins you made the higher chances of you getting the feature. So, I always wait for the guy who lost a lot leaving the slot machine and then try my luck.

My 1st Day and 2nd Day in Genting & 2009 Zodiac Advice

Continuing from my previous entry, my parents arrived at 5.15pm. Quickly, we went to get our number for check-in. Because of the large sum of people, check-in counters in First World Hotel were divided into 2 parts. First part was where you get your number for the next queue; whereas the second part was where you get your hotel room.

Trust me! Genting was not a good place during Chinese New Year, people were everywhere. 

But we were abnormal enough to spend thousands for two 3-day rooms for than 3 years straight!

 

Genting First World Hotel room had lots of rumors, until one of my colleagues (guy) claimed that he would not be brave enough to walk through the hotel corridor during midnight. Actually this photo was taken at exactly 12am J.

To make thing 'worse', this was my hotel room number.

If you were staying in the standard room, most likely you would encounter 3 problems:

1. The toilet was so small that bigger-sized person need to reverse himself or herself into the toilet to sit on the toilet bowl.
   
2. The shower room usually had some sewage problem until when you bathed, you felt like we were swimming.
   
3. If you were unlucky you might your windows might be facing other room. So, less privacy for couples, good show for viewers :p
   

 

Guess what? I had 5 Angpows this year! Would this be my last year getting Angpows?

Before hitting the casino, I went to check the Zodiac advice in the Star Newspaper website. There seem to be an article for those born on this year.

Do’s and don’ts for the Ox

It seems that I will have lucks in every aspect. But till now, it looks like I am experiencing the opposite! Sigh! See how this year goes for me. By the way, 2^nd Day in genting, not much luck in winning. I bet the boss of genting should be laughing to the bank soon.

Genting - The Pretties and Uglies

It was a rough week with many bad thing happening, both to my personal life and work stuff. I felt like wanted to hide from the world……
…or even to somewhere else where I could have a peaceful break somewhere like diving into a deep ocean.
But I don’t know have license to dive. So my next choice was somewhere that could offer excitement, entertainment, and stress- free – Genting, City of Entertainment!

I believe in Ying and Yang – The balance of Good and Bad of lucks. So it was the perfect place to try my luck.

Genting is a perfect place for everyone. There are places to baby-sit the children - Theme park (Morning Babysitter),

and when it comes to night time and Theme park closes,

there are game arcades as well as game equipment for kids.

As for adults, there is usually one place to go - Casino! And it is enough to keep them there for hours or even days!

Usually during weekends, there are lots of people trying to entertain themselves.

Although I am not a compulsive gambler but I too tried my luck in the casino, but my bad luck got worse. I contributed quite a sum of money into maintaining these machines.

One particular shop caught my attention during my first glimpse at the name – I though it was an ‘entertainment place’ for woman; but I was wrong, it was “Grgtoo” not “Gigolo”.

The ugly side of Genting is that I lost my respect to the elders who I always treat them with respect. Usually when you are in a bus going up Genting, you see their faces full of excitement and happiness; but when you took the bus going down Genting with them. I could hear them scolding all sort of foul languages that I could not find in your foul language dictionary.

As for compulsive gambler that brought their family to Genting, it was really a sad sight to see people left aside their family while they are trying to score some luck in the casino.

It is not rare to see gambler breaking down because losing everything they got.
